• Several of my sites just auto “updated” to 4.1.4 instead of the 4.2.1 security fix. I had to manually update to the current release.

  • I have the same problem. However, updating to 4.2 (from 4.1.3) or 4.2.1 (from 4.1.3 or 4.1.4) is impossible.
What is version 4.1.4 (or 4.1.3)? How could it be automatically installed (by Installatron) in stead of 4.2. or 4.2.1?
And how to branch back from 4.1.x to 4.2 if updating from wp-admin does not work and Installatron only finds 4.1.4 as the latest version?

    Hi,

Are you both using a 3rd party installer for WordPress perhaps? (I see you mentioned something called Installatron, horus79)

If these are tools intended for hosting platforms/yo uare on a shared host then your host -might- have cached the update data (this is quite common for shared hosts).

If that’s not the case, could you share some more information about your setups so we can see what might be causing this for you?

I am using the native www.remarpro.com auto-update functionality. The affected sites are running on a LiquidWeb Cloud VPS server, cPanel/WHM environment. No update caching that I’m aware of.

Before upgrading servers a few months ago, I routinely got messages that the auto update had failed and so I would do it manually. When auto updates started working, I thought I was getting some additional security from always being on the latest version. I was disturbed when I realized I’d been updated to a version that was missing a critical security patch.

I received an email notice on 4/27 that my blog had been updated automatically to 4.1.4 and now all of my posts are messed up! Now when visiting my site you see VERY old posts, and posts that are just code. Also, they all show that they were posted on 4/26. I don’t understand why this happened. How do I get my content to show correctly?

@annagain, it seems like your issue is quite different from what the others here are experiencing, so I’ll leave your question to the other thread you have ??

@davidfcarr and @horus79 does manually looking for an update in the backend bring you up to 4.2.1, or are they all just seeing 4.1.4 for you?

After 72 hours of retries most domains that automatically upgraded to 4.1.3 (and 4.1.4) now show 4.2.1 (initially the US version, after appr. 24 hours also the local language version) ready for manual install from wp-admin. So it probably was a caching problem (at 2 different hosters, both using Installatron).

It’s 10 days since 4.2.1 and all seven of my WordPress installs were stuck on 4.1.4. All promote the availability of 4.2.1 in their respective dashboards, but none auto-updated.

I ran “Background Update Tester” on all of them, and each passed all tests.

I have now upgraded all but one – https://www.influenceprofessional.com – in case that’s any use here in debugging.

@psheld WordPress will not by it self auto-update you from 4.1.x to 4.2.x, auto udpates are by default only set to do security releases (the third digit in your version number).

Thanks Marius, I hadn’t appreciated that, thank you. I have revisited the Automatic Background Updates page to read it more slowly!
