• I know “code is poetry” – but I don’t know code.

    Anyhow, I can’t do the 2.7 > 2.7.1 update.

I’m on 1and1, and I saw this bit on a forum post:

“(fails running PHP 4, but works with PHP 5. Add AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to .htaccess to enable PHP 5. This also appears to not only affect Core updates but some Plugin updates as well.)

    Translation: Add this line
    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
into your .htaccess file, which is in the top folder of your WordPress install”

Well, I found “.htaccess” within the file wp-admin/options-permalink.php – but I don’t have a clue where to paste that code into that file (or if that’s what I need to do).

  • No – that’s the wrong file. Look on the directory where you installed WordPress. You should see a file called .htaccess. This is the file that you need to edit. Open it in a text editor and add the line suggested to the very top of the file, save and re-upload.

I can’t find that file. I must not have access to it. Sigh.

Are you using an FTP client? If, ‘yes’, make sure that you haven’t got any filters set that are hiding the file.

I created that file, made a one-line entry in the file and uploaded it to my server. (There was no file by that name there.)

It STILL won’t do the auto-update.
