Most commenters at my websites are fine. However, now and then, someone posts one okay comment (which I approve) and then follows with dozens of inane comments.

They aren’t using words on my spam list. They aren’t total nonsense; they do specifically reference the content of my posts. The comments aren’t linking to any sites. I suspect they’re comments from lonely readers who just want to feel important with dozens of silly and/or inflammatory comments.

I hate having to manually delete those comments, but the current alternative is to manually approve every comment. The latter is a huge task for my larger sites.

Is there a plugin or some tweak that enables me to say, “Don’t auto-approve comments until the poster has 5 approved comments”?

I’m using the current WP (2.7.x).

I’ve run into something similar a time or two…once I see this I just add that commenter’s email, and sometimes ip, to the comment moderation queue…the field just above the backlist field.

This isn’t exactlly what you want, but may help…it seems to work for me since I’ve only had to use it a couple of times.
