Auto detect works only on main page

Currently my website is not on WordPress. I started a test website on a sub-domain. If you want, I can give a link for testing.

Of course, both options are checked:
– “Hide URL language information for default language”;
– “Detect the language of the browser and redirect accordingly”.

The default language is English.

As I wrote above auto-detection works beautifuly for the main page. For example:
https://www.myproduct.com
redirects to
https://www.myproduct.com/fr/
(if my language in browser is French)

But if I type
https://www.myproduct.com/tour/
it doesn’t redirect to
https://www.myproduct.com/fr/tour/

Same problem with Polylang which I also tested.

I always tested in a new private window of Chrome browser. Cookies and cache were cleared.

WordPress was configured without cache plug-ins.

If your language is English you’ll be redirected to:
https://test.picturestoexe.com/en/

Everything is OK.

Now open this page:
https://test.picturestoexe.com/tour/
Auto-redirect doesn’t work, and you’ll see French default version.
I expected to see:
https://test.picturestoexe.com/en/tour/

I added Dutch language and main page and tour page.

Try both pages with cleared cookies and cache:

I see what you mean but I think this is correct.

When a user comes to the site for the very first time from an external link, or by typing url in, then language is set to the one encoded in the URL used. If URL does not have language information encoded in it, then it is determined by browser settings, and a redirect to a canonical URL may happen at that time.

https://test.picturestoexe.com/tour/ has encoded language. This you do not see but it is there.
Hide URL for default language is checked. Uncheck it and type https://test.picturestoexe.com/tour/ then the browser will determine the language.

I understand, but it would be great if qTranslate could offer one more option to force use auto-detection on first open of *any* page.

We prefer “Hide URL for default language” option to keep short URL for default language.

I found website on WordPress with WPML and then I type:

I see re-directed page:
https://mountainguide.ru/ru/trekking/

When a visitor sees a link in a search page he also see a resume of the content in that language. If he clicks on it and would then be sent to the language of the browser = force use auto-detection I would not see that as user-friendly.
This is a personal preference.
But if more people come with this question then it is something to consider maybe.

My another website has a strange problem with Google. It’s multilingual:

https://www.wnsoft.com/fr/picturestoexe/ (French)

But when French user type “picturestoexe” (name of the product) in Google he can see a link to English version as the most popular page for this keyword:
https://www.wnsoft.com/picturestoexe/

So we had to use auto-detect to redirect French users from English version to French version:
https://www.wnsoft.com/fr/picturestoexe/

Many users simply don’t see language switcher and auto-detection greatly helps.

Maybe qTranslate Slug can be a good solution for this.
