• I have noticed this error across multiple sites and multiple hosts – all Linux / Apache.

    Under Global settings I select:

Allow iThemes Security to write to wp-config.php and .htaccess. = yes

Under Banned Users section I select:

Enable HackRepair.com’s blacklist feature = Yes
    Enable ban users = Yes

Enable Blacklist Repeat Offender = yes

And I then set the rules to auto ban those users. I’m keeping logs for 30 days in most cases.

I have looked through the change logs and other support requests and this is a widespread problem. A changelog for 4.2.15 even mentions that this is fixed…

Fixed an issue that was preventing an IP from being permanently banned due to too many lockouts

However this is not correct – at least on the 20 sites that I monitor using this plugin.

This is a serious bug or bugs.

    1. Hosts should be automatically banned if they break the rules set elsewhere in the plugin and that means they should get added to the banned ip list.

I can work around the missing “auto /ban” function by adding Ip numbers manually to the ban list which is what I have been doing for weeks but that is not a scalable fix considering the amount of rogue traffic out there now.
