Authors do not appear; see admin as author instead?

I have a mysterious bug that I’ve not been able to make progress on; hope someone here has a suggestion.
The problem is that the incorrect author appears. The administrator created two authors of the article, just as for other articles; but when it renders, her name appears.
We are running the WP Brightly theme, and thought the helpful theme author would be able to help; but he replied that this is not a theme-related problem; rather, WP uses a standard function for posting authors.
So, I have two questions:
1) Do we need a plug-in for multiple authors?
2) Why does the admin name appear instead of the authors created for the article?thanks in advance,
