I restricted a page to author. However, when I log in as an author, I cannot access the page.

I am also using a plugin called Nav Menu Roles, which restricts levels from even seeing the page in the menu. With that setting as author, the page is not viewable to lower levels, but then authors, who can see the page listed, cannot access it.

    Responsive mobile theme.

    thanks,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Is the author a Contributor or an Author (in terms of their user role)?

Contributors. On our site, contributors are members in the sense that they have access to the member’s area (which is otherwise hidden from view)and have no other privileges (i.e. they cannot post or edit posts). We also have authors who are our executive who can access executive pages and admin who have full access and can also access the admin pages. Only admin can post and edit.

My worry is that though the general public cannot see restricted pages, using Google search, they may be able to find pages that we do not want the public to see. As the site is new, Google has not yet indexed it, but when it has been indexed, this could be a problem.

I would be happy to work with you privately to give you access to the site. In the meantime, you can see it here: https://www.beavercanoeclub.org

    Thanks,

    Jeff

i think i have not been clear. I’ll try again. When i restrict a page to contributor, (so only contributors and up should be able to view the contents) contributors, subscribers and users not logged in can’t view the contents. This does not make sense. Even worse, when I restrict the same page to subscriber, subscribers and contributors can view the contents, though users not logged in cannot.

i also tried using short codes with the same results.

This is quite important. Can you help?

why can’t an author view author pages?
Why can’t contributors view contributor pages?

    can someone help?

    Hi Jeffski,

Please remember that you are using a free plugin and, as much as I would love to, I cannot always assist as quickly as we’d all like on questions for free plugins.

Could you show me a screenshot of both the edit screen for one of the posts you’ve restricted and also the edit screen for one of the users that should have access to it?

i replied via email. Thank you.

have you had a chance to look at those jpegs?

    thanks,

    Hmm, that all looks correct.

Do you have any plugins that have created custom user roles?

    (@jefffski)

Nav Menu Roles. Could that be the problem? On our site, no one can post or edit except admins.

    jeff

No, that plugin couldn’t cause it.

If you’d like to send me admin credentials via support@pippinsplugins(dot)com, I’d be happy to take a closer look.

ok. when will you be poking around (not actually changing anything, right?)

I will need your email address. Can you email it to me?
