    Hello,
I manage a service-based company and I would like to pre-authorize payments and then charge them only when the service is completed.

I see that there is an option at product level called “Charge Type” when you can select Authorize or Capture, but is not well documented.
Can you please explain how to manage it?

    thanks

    Hi @oceandigitals,

On the settings page of each payment method (Credit Card Settings, Apple Pay Settings etc) there is the Charge Type option. Here is what the description states for that option if you hover over it:

This option determines whether the customer's funds are captured immediately or authorized and can be captured at a later date.

So you can use the authorize option to first authorize the customer’s payment method, then charge it at a later date. Authorizations last about 7 days before they expire.

The product level charge type option is for the express payment buttons like Apple Pay and Google Pay. It allows you to control if a product is authorized or charged when a customer pays directly on the product page.

    Kind Regards,
