Author URL
-
Hello
Is it possible to change the “Author URL” field under Edit Author? It is greyed out.
Thanks

Also, in the Author Boxes, is it possible to have the “display name” and “view all posts” links point to different URLs? The view all posts can go to the archive page which is fine. But if I have a custom author page, I would want the “display name” to go here and not to the archive page.
Currently, they both point to the archive page which is pointless to have 2 links going to the same page.

Hi @banther
Thanks for using PublishPress Authors.
You could change the Author URL by using other plugin like “Edit Author Slug”. You could read more about it here: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/how-to-change-author-urls/
While for custom link for specific button or text, you would need to create custom template for that. We provide tutorial about it here: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/author-boxes-theme-templates/
Thanks for your reply.
Is it possible to have social links in the author boxes? Like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn buttons? Just like the email and website button links?
Is this in the pro version only?

@banther Yes, it will be only on the Pro version.
On the free version, only email and website button links.
On the pro version, you could create Author Fields that you could use as social link (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) or any kind of usage.
Ok thanks. But do they look like social icons? Or would it just display a text link?
I do not see any screenshots of how this would look on your website.
I would prefer to know how this would look before I pay for the pro version.
Possible to show an example of how it would look in the author box?
@banther There are multiple ways to show the Author Fields. You could read more about it here: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/show-author-fields-value/
@rizaardiyanto Ok thanks. I didn’t see that before. Thanks for your help.
@rizaardiyanto Going back to the custom links for specific button or text. I was trying to follow your instructions in the tutorial, but it all looks different for me.
I cannot navigate to the directory like the way its described. The following path does not exist for me:
/wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/publishpress-authors/author-boxes
For me to get to the ‘author boxes’ folder, I have to navigate this way:
/wp-content/plugins/publishpress-authors/src/modules/author-boxes
And if I paste the generated php file in this folder, it doesn’t show anything new in the PublishPress Authors Settings.
Please advise
The correct path is:
/wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/publishpress-authors/author-boxes
If the folder does not exist, you could create one.
It’s not just the folder that doesn’t exist, it’s the whole path.
This path doesn’t exist for me: /wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/publishpress-authors/author-boxes
In my case, the /publishpress-authors/ folder is not under /my-theme/
It is under /wp-content/plugins/
Do I need to create the whole path?
@banther Can you inform me what theme you are using?
I use the Mercury affiliate theme. https://themeforest.net/item/mercury-gambling-news-casino-magazine-wordpress-theme/20951954
And what the folder name of your theme inside wp-content/theme ?
wp-content/themes/mercury/ is my theme folder
But the ?/publishpress-authors/ folder is not in here. Mine is here:
/wp-content/plugins/publishpress-authors/
@banther So in this case, what you need to do is go to:
wp-content/themes/mercury/
Then create new folder called publishpress-authors
After that, you will need to go to this path:
wp-content/themes/mercury/publishpress-authors/
And then create new folder again called author-boxes
Now you should have the correct path which is
wp-content/themes/mercury/publishpress-authors/author-boxes
Let me know if you have any difficulties.
Thanks,
-
