I’m setting up our mp3’s with the proper ID3 tags: Title, Artist, Album, Image. When our episodes go live it seems that BB is sending our exact post title as the Title and our site name (also our podcast name) as the Album. The Artist tag is empty and there is no Image.

I was reading through this post on Author tags and I think it may not populate that field because iTunes could potentially remove it for not having actual names. Not sure, BB plugin says it should be using our site title.

What can I do to make it so this is how the podcast reads on my car’s media system:

Artist: “Jimmy Eat Pod” or “David & Justin” instead of blank
Song: Custom Title e.g. “Episode 008 – Lean feat. Bryan Sammis” instead of “008 – Lean”
Album: “Are You Listening?” instead of “Jimmy Eat Pod”
Image: Our podcast image instead of blank

    Hi @jimmyeatpod,

All of that information should be included within your RSS feed. ID3 tags aren’t used for podcast metadata. The RSS feed is where all of that information comes from and the title of the blog post will be the title of the episode, no matter what is in the ID3 tags.

In that case, what am I missing in regards to the plugin setup so I can get my media player to display this:

Artist: “Jimmy Eat Pod” or “David & Justin” instead of blank
Song: Custom Title e.g. “Episode 008 – Lean feat. Bryan Sammis” instead of “008 – Lean”
Album: “Are You Listening?” instead of “Jimmy Eat Pod”
Image: Our podcast image instead of blank

At the very least I would like to have the image load. Currently that is blank. Is that the Poster Image?

    Hello Jimmy,

I am sure our staff answered you, but for others reading this, most podcast apps today do not use the ID3 tags (meta information) that is saved in the mp3 or m4a audio file. It is a good practices to populate this with your favorite editor, but it is the information you enter into PowerPress settings as well as at the episode level that will appear in podcast apps, not what is populated into the media file. Fields like Album, Artist, track number, genre, etc… do not really apply in the podcast space, though some podcasters use the track number as an episode number, the audio tag info was intended to emulate music CD or record information to a digital format, it pre-dates podcasting. If we could re-invent ID3 tags, there would be a title, summary, category and author fields to complement podcasting information.

Currently only desktop “audio player” apps display the id3 artwork. I am not aware of any “desktop podcast” apps that display the id3 artwork today. I do recommend saving artwork to your id3 tags for this reason, but it will only be viewed by a small number of your listeners. Today most podcasts are consumed either directly on the web or in mobile podcast apps, in both cases they do not display the media file information or images.

    Thanks,
    Angelo
