Author information / meta display difference

We have a filter that swaps the author name for a custom “contributor” field. This is a pretty common set up. The filter catches calls for author meta info and works fine most of the time.
When we view your preview, it works on Pagefrog. But, it will not work on the actual Pagefrog pages. In looking at the code for these, I think they use different methods for getting at the author info?
Is there a solution we can try? Am I missing something?
