Author email is not accessible via author_meta

Unable to access author email in get_author_index endpoint. Not quite sure, if it is blocked intentionally due to security reasons. Can you please confirm.
Eg Request: https://xxxx.com/?json=get_author_index&author_meta=user_email,twitter,facebook,website,user_email
If email not accessible, any other way I can retrieve author Gravtar image? using JSON API.
