Author defaults to Administrator
-
I’m not sure how to articulate my issue so perhaps someone else has had this problem, and if I know how to word it better, I can search it.
For reference, I have used PublishPress plugins (and previously User Role Editor) to control these roles, but I still experienced this issue after deactivating.
I am an Administrator. I have separate roles in my environment for users who can edit their own posts (referred to as Generalists), and for users who can edit Generalists’ posts, along with their own. (Managers)
When trying to test the permissions of a Manager, they can edit correctly, but the author drop-down in the post editor only returns my Administrator handle, even though I am logged in as the Manager. If published, the edited post would then appear to be authored by the Administrator, even though it was edited by a Manager. From my search and testing, it looks like the last editor of the post assumes the Author, which is my Administrator handle, even when I did it on the Manager account.
I suspect there is something strange with my permissions or role customization, but I’m not sure where to begin.
I do, however, know where I (eventually) want to end:
- The Author drop-down in the post editor reflects the account that is actually doing the editing
As an aside, I’m also looking for solutions to show:
- The author remains the original author on the post
- There is an indicator on the post that it was “edited by” the last user that edited it
Any assistance would be appreciated.
