I recently migrated my website using WP Stagecoach from a staging site to the main site, and upon getting it over, I was no longer able to log into my admin account. I received an error that says: ERROR: An error was encountered while trying to authenticate. Please try again
I have 2fa enabled if that helps. I also tried to disable the WF plugin and drop all WF SQL tables, no luck. Any ideas?

Hello @ajwurtz and thanks for reaching out to us!

The best way to gain entrance is to rename the Wordfence folder in wp-content/plugins (rename wordfence to wordfence_temp for example). You will want to do that via FTP or file manager in your cPanel/hosting area.

Once you rename the Wordfence folder there, that will deactivate Wordfence and you should be able to log in as normal. After you log in, using the same method as before, rename the plugin back to just wordfence, and refresh your WordPress dashboard. You should see Wordfence back (if you don’t at that point, go into Plugins and click Activate on Wordfence).

From there we can then check and see what is possibly causing the issue. Was this the first time this has happened? Let me know if it happens again once you reactivate wordfence on login.

https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/#migrate-with-wordfence is a good reference for migrating your site.

    Thanks!
