    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

I’m not exactly sure why this is not working, and I can’t directly test, but this might be related to table output caching in TablePress.
Therefore, please try turning that off, by changing the Shortcode for this table to

    [table id=1 cache_table_output=1 /]

    Regards,
    Tobias

I changed the shortcode to what you proposed above and it’s still not working. Uggg. Have you been testing TablePress with wordpress 3.6 by any chance? I know that release will have native audio and video support, so maybe that will help.

And like I said, the plugin works fine just not with a table on the page (either IN the table or OUTSIDE of it).

    Hi,

yes, I’m actually doing all the development work against WordPress 3.6. I have to admin though, that I haven’t played around with the new audio/video functionality.

If it’s not working either in nor outside of a table, this might indicate a JavaScript problem.
To verify this, please try again after unchecking the “Use DataTables” checkbox on the “Edit” screen of TablePress. That will turn of the JS that TablePress uses.

    Tobias

Yes. With that turned off, the plugin plays fine. I know you once checked for JS conflicts and found it with my theme. Are you able to do the same? I’ve re-enabled “Use DataTables.”

    Hi,

ok, thanks for checking that. Then there is some sort of JS conflict. However, it only seems to happen on the iPad — and that’s what makes things complicated here ??
I know how to find JS conflicts on a PC, but I have no real clue on how to debug this on an iPad. There’s just no real and easy to use tools for that.
I’ll try with my iPad at home later today, but unfortunately I can’t promise a solution ??

And just to be sure that this is caused by the DataTables JS: Could you please try again after temporarily deactivating all other plugins except TablePress, and after switching to the WordPress default theme Twenty Twelve (or Thirteen)? I just want to be sure that nothing else is involved.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Ok, just disabled all plugins (except the table and the audio player) AND switched to the 2011 theme. Still the same thing. I’m going to put everything back the way it was.

Also, if I updated to 3.6, will that prevent you from troubleshooting? Or for now, should I just stay on 3.5.1?

    Hi,

    ok, thanks for testing this!

Now, just to clarify: Are you currently using a plugin for the audio player, or do these problems happen with the native audio support in WP 3.6? (I’m asking because you mention that you left an audio player plugin activated.)

And no, updating to WP 3.6 will not cause trouble regarding troubleshooting of this issue.

    Tobias

The audio player is a plugin, however, it’s the plugin that became the backbone native audio & video player in 3.6. I’m going to upgrade to 3.6, deactivate the plugin (since it’s part of WP 3.6 now) and we can take it from there.

    Hi,

ah, thanks for that explanation. I guess, I’ll need to dive into those new features some more ?? I don’t need audio/video on my sites, so I haven’t played with these.

And yes, updating to WP 3.6 and then investigating this will be the best way to go.

    Tobias

Excellent. I’m all upgraded here. Let me know if you end up finding anything. Weird that this is an iPad only issue.

    Hi,

great! I’ll check it out shortly!

It’s actually not even surprising that the iPad has problems here. As it’s missing support for Flash, that can not be used as a fallback method, if the native HTML5 is not possible, for some reason. But that’s probably not the reason here.

    Hi,

ok, I now took at look on my iPad, and I can confirm that that audio players are not working. However, I have no clue why, and I have no idea how to find out ??

And just for testing, could you create another test page, where the audio player is outside of a table (and without any audio players in the table). Thanks!

    Tobias

Ok, this page has a new table on it with the players outside of the table. They work on the iPad. Weird, because I thought I put players outside my first table and they didn’t work…

In any case, this page has the players inside the table which won’t work.

    (@tobiasbg)

    Hi,

wait, the audio players on the page where they are outside the table seem to be created by the plugin, and not by the native WP functionality, from what I can see in the browser.
But yes, that page is working fine on the iPad…

    Regards,
    Tobias
