I’m trying to verify the site https://www.plastic2go.com.au on the Attracta system and it keeps failing with “URL returns 403 Forbidden error”. It’s likely that Attracta uses some server-side script to run the site verification, which could trigger any number of protective devices in iThemes Security.

I’ve tried deactivating the plugin and (separately) removing the blocks from .htaccess, but neither helped.

How can I find out why the connection was blocked? It’s not a 404, it’s not a file change and there is no login attempt involved, so nothing appears in the log.

How do I allow this, even temporarily?

    Thanks,
    Gal

  • Hey Gal,

Could you check your server logs and see if there’s any relevant errors there?

    Thanks,

    Hey Gerroald,

Doh! Should have thought of that…

Nothing in the access logs (I’m assuming this is what you meant). I don’t know the IP addresses or agents used, and searching for 403 errors shows nothing.

Is there anything the plugin does to deny access beyond the deny rules in .htaccess?

    Thanks again,
    Gal

    Hello again,

I also use InternetSeer to monitor one of my sites’ availability and after installing iThemes Security, I started getting 403 from that service.

Unfortunately, there is no other information besides “403 forbidden”.

    Thanks,
    Gal

This was due to the check being done not as a full browser, which the plugin rightly suspects.

Hello, this is Andrew from the Attracta support department. I believe that you are correct and the ‘403 forbidden’ errors are due to the Attracta dashboard attempting to validate the URL anonymously, and the security settings are returning the error code. If you are certain that there are no issues with your website, you can still add the domain into your Attracta dashboard by clicking on the ‘Add Site’ button once again.

If you are still having issues adding a domain into your dashboard, or if you have any other questions about your Attracta account, you can contact us directly at [email protected] or create a support ticket at the following link – https://support.attracta.com/anonymous_requests/new
