I am trying to figure out why the members feed for a clients podcast will not add to the Google Podcast App. I determined that the member podcast may not be adding to the Google Podcast Manager because it was password protected and a private feed, but I see that private podcast should be able to be added within the Google Podcast App.

When I attempt to do this I get an error message “Something went wrong. This show is not available right now” and when I try to add via my Google account at podcasts.google.com and try to register by RSS URL I get this error “This podcast is not available or not yet published”

I don’t fully understand why this isn’t working. Is it possible some of the feed should be visible (like RSS Feed title, description, author and such) and just not actual podcasts without a login? Or am I just misunderstanding this feature of the Google Podcast App?

HI there. Yes as you’re alluding to private podcast feeds can’t be added to Google Podcasts in a way that would make them publicly available (like a conventional podcast) but Members, as you’re referring to them, can manually subscribe to a private podcast in the Google Podcasts mobile app directly.

So I think we’re talking about two different things here: One is to have a podcast publicly available in Google Podcasts for new listeners to find, which is what you’d do with a conventional, public podcast. The other is for your Members to add their unique, private podcast feed to their mobile device via the Google Podcasts app.

We cover the latter in this help doc: https://support.castos.com/article/127-adding-a-password-protected-private-podcast-to-mobile-apps

Let us know how that goes for you.

Thank you for your response and thanks for helping me make sure I am giving my client accurate information about private feeds on Google Podcast Manager.

As for the Google Podcast App. I have tried to manually add the feed via both the app and the subdomain podcasts.google.com. I get an error every time I try to add it. I can add the feed to other podcast apps and some either ask if there is a username and password when the feed is added or others just prompt when the feed is accessed by the app. So I know the feed works and all is good. However, I can not successfully implement the private feed in the Google App or Browser interface. I am using the most current version of Google Podcasts on my phone (a Samsun Galaxy S20+). So, I am looking towards the feed having an issue or something else. Have you seen any issues with this not working and anything specific I should look for?

I’m running into exactly the same problem as Stoi2m1 on a Galaxy 10+.

Here’s the way I’ve been trying to add the feed…

    Open Google Podcasts.
Tap “Activity” in the lower right.
Tap “Subscriptions” on the top menu bar.
Tap the line of 3 little dots in the upper right.
Tap Add by RSS feed in the menu that opens.
Copy the password protected feed into the feed field
    Tap “Subscribe.”

And then I immediately get an error message. The feed is fine and works on other apps, so it isn’t an issue with the RSS, nor an issue with a malformed copy/paste.

Has anyone found a solution this?
