Latest version of WordPress, theme and all plugins up to date.

When I try to add a page or post, the following error messages appear:

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /homepages/4/d514737706/htdocs/IASE/WordPress/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 742

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/4/d514737706/htdocs/IASE/WordPress/wp-admin/includes/post.php:742) in /homepages/4/d514737706/htdocs/IASE/WordPress/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 9

I’ve tried disabling all plugins, changing to a “default” theme (Twenty Twenty-Two), and reinstalling WordPress, and none of it helps.

At the same time this started, I started having trouble adding items to my media library. Every time I try, it fails and an item that has no name or association is added to my database. I cannot find a way to remove those items.

Someone please help! I’m desperate; my level of frustration is increasing, and my associates don’t understand why I can’t fix it instantaneously. Everything used to work, and all of a sudden it doesn’t. I don’t know what to do next.

    The site is

    Hey @elffuts

First of all, I’m so sorry that you had to go through this. When there is an error message like this, especially for a work site, it always causes so much frustration. I would love to help you fix this.

I did some digging on this for you. Since you have already eliminated a plugin or theme conflict by conflict testing, the next step would be to check if there is an issue with one of the WordPress files, which seems to be the case, in this situation.

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Hi Hari:

Thank you for the quick response.

Unfortunately, what you suggest is exactly what I did when I “reinstalled” WordPress. The problem still exists.

I just tried “reinstalling” again, and there’s still no change.

    Any other ideas?

I still get the following when I try to add a new page:

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /homepages/4/d514737706/htdocs/IASE/WordPress/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 742
