    Hello,

    I have a couple questions…

First of all, I just tested the plugin by putting my own email address in and I get a confirmation pop-up, but it’s been half the day now and I still have not received any confirmation message to my actual email. Why would this be?

Additionally is this set up how we have our signup form in Mailchimp set up? For example, I have a thank you and an attachment with my freebie go out in Mailchimp, but I don’t see how to do that with this plugin in, (adding the attachment)?
Then, I also have a follow up email go out a day later and am not sure if this could do that too?

    Any guidance would help.

    Thank you,
    Brooke

    Hello Brooke,

First, I am not sure why your subscription was unsuccessful but if you send over a URL to your form I can test it and make sure that subscriptions are working.

Second, as long as you’re using the correct list and choose double opt-in (in our plugin – submission settings), your MailChimp.com settings should not be affected. So your thank you email with an attachment and your next day follow up email should send as normal.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

    Hi @bboesl,

Are you able to send a link to your form so we can take a look?

    Thank you!

Thanks for the response. The link where the form is, is here below the slider image – https://brookeboesl.com

I just would like them to be able to sign up and then immediately receive my email with the download, and then the follow up email I have automated a few days later. However, neither of these seem to be working with the plugin. It only seems to work with the Mailchimp signup link.

    Thanks,
    Brooke

    Hi @bboesl,

First, you’ll need to use double opt-in for your welcome message and attachment to be sent. I just tested subscribing on your site with double opt-in and it is working. (here is an article explaining how to set double opt-in: https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/opt-in-settings/).

Second, your theme is hiding our success/failure message after a subscriber signs up. The subscriptions are successful but the styles connected to your “SUBSCRIBE TO RECEIVE ALL EXCLUSIVE UPDATES!” are sitting on top of the sign up form’s messages. We can try adding some custom CSS to change this but it might be easier for you to move the sign up form slightly.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

So they can’t simply opt-in with their info as they would in my Mailchimp signup form link, without the double opt-in setting? They can only get the attachment with the double opt-in with this plug in?

As for my theme, it seems to be displaying fine on my devices – using Safari on both desktop and mobile. What are you using that’s it’s not displaying? Or do you know why it might not be displaying right for you, but it seems to be for me?

    Thanks,
    Brooke

    Hello Brooke,

I thought it was MailChimp’s policy to only send welcome emails to users who double opt-in. This is definitely the case for subscribing via the API which is what our plugin our uses. Their hosted forms might work differently. However, you must use double opt-in if you want subscribers to receive the welcome email (which includes the attachment).

What is not displaying is our form’s success/error messages. After a user subscribes, we display a message above the form. So you know what I am talking about, there are a few pictures of these messages in this article : https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/whoops-something-went-wrong/

    Does that make sense?

    All the best,
    Kevin.

I think that has changed for Mailchimp, since they recently added the feature that you don’t need a double opt in.
So I don’t have the double opt-in setting on my Mailchimp sign up form, and people are receiving the welcome email/attachment through the direct Mailchimp link. However, when someone opts in on my website, it doesn’t seem to go through without the double opt-in. So I’m wondering if there’s a way for that to work without the double opt-in?

Also, yes I’m familiar with what the success/error message is, but I can see them when I test it on my website via desktop and my phone, so I’m wondering why I’m able to see it, but you aren’t.

I am going to do some research on the double opt-in issue but I am not optimistic that they’ve changed it for the API. As I said before, I subscribed on your site and did not receive the email (single opt-in). When I unsubscribed and then re-subscribed (which will always use double opt-in), I did receive the email. I’ll let you know if I find anything.

In terms of the success/error message – I’m sorry! I thought you had never seen the message – oops! When I try to subscribe on my desktop on Chrome the message is not visible. However when I test on my phone (Chrome and Safari) I am able to see the message. I am not sure what’s going on there.

Okay, could you let me know what you find out about the double opt-in; and also if you find out why different browsers or devices may be making the success/error message be visible or not?

    Hi Brooke,

MailChimp has an announcement that they’re transitioning forms to single opt-in as of the beginning of this month. This makes me think they’re making changes to the single opt-in workflow. However, there have been no changes to the API (at least not yet). Unless you’re using a hosted form, MailChimp will not send a welcome email to single opt-in subscribers.

Oddly enough it seems the success/error message is now working in the browser. I am not sure what’s going on with that. It was not working in Chrome yesterday but it is working perfectly now. I also tested FireFox and it worked perfectly the first time.

So in conclusion, you’ll need to use double opt-in for our plugin to work properly. I’m sorry about that!

    All the best,
    Kevin.
