• Hi Everybody,

I am having some problems with the navigation bar on my workplace’s website.

    https://zestevents.com.au/.

I think it is from installing WooCommerce. I am using Athena theme, Chrome, Firefox, WP 4.5.2 and have updated all plugins yesterday.

I am not that experienced in code although I can sort of work out what I am looking at. My experience is limited to building sites with templates and uploading content. Very little php experience although I can work it out with tutorials.

The problem I’m having is my navigation bar is squashed up against the site logo and the search bar. I think this has happened because of Woocommerce’s ‘Cart’ button now sits where the search bar used to be. The menu used to be spaced evenly in the header and now has no space between each menu item. The search bar used to sit to the right now it is squashing the menu up against the logo. it seems like the padding has been removed?

What I assume has happened is the Woo Commerce cart has pushed everything over.

What I have ruled out so far:

I had a template override problem after installing Woocommerce. I fixed it by copying files from Woo template into Athena theme via php. That removed the WP notification

I don’t think it’s a menu or widget problem, although I am not 100% sure.

What I think may fix it, as a last resort:

I backed up everything with Backupbuddy before I updated to the current version of WordPress. The backup was done before I installed WooCommerce. Maybe I can restore the backup?

Is there a chance that it was the WordPress update and not WooCommerce?

Please help, I am stuck and feeling so unprofessional. Thanks a bunch in advance ??

    Jai

I have deactivated WooCommerce at the moment by request of my boss. I can turn back on for troubleshooting if need be.

You can see that the menu is still affected when WooCommerce is deactivated. I even removed the plugin and that did not fix it.

I have checked all plugins by turning them off to see if it was a plugin and the WordPress 4.5.2 update. It wasn’t. It has to be WooCommerce.

Also, the Athena theme that we are using is a retired theme by Woothemes. It was retired in October 2015 and support ends for it 6 months after it was retired. Which is now.

Could it be that the WooCommerce update missed something in the Athena theme or Athena wasn’t accounted for when building the update because it was retired?

That still doesn’t fix our menu squash problem.

Fixed by restoring theme backup with Updraft Pluss plugin!

I will put WooCommerce back on to see if it squashes the menu so I can confirm the issue was Athena theme and WooCommerce.

Likely just a styling issue, but as you say Athena is no longer supported. Thought of using storefront?

    Hi Mike,

My boss doesn’t really want to upgrade themes. I think they have paid a developer to do quite a few things to the theme. We are not a shop and only want to sell a few items and I don’t think she wants to change the whole website just for that. Is there any way to get woocommerce working on athena?

    (@jaihallam)

What if I downloaded an older release of WooCommerce that matched the framework of the version of Athena we are using?

    Plugin Contributor Mike Jolley

    (@mikejolley)

I’d need to see the actual issue – it can likely be fixed with some CSS tweaks.

Don’t downgrade; you’ll lose access to security updates and generally have more issues..
