My website’s been up for several weeks and I’ve discovered a recurring problem I can’t find a solution to.

I’m creating two containers with three “columns” in each one. In each column I have an info box with a link. When I’m editing the homepage, everything is spaced out, sized, and centered as I want with the appropriate background color. The tablet and mobile preview screens also display correctly.

But when I update the page, most of the time the layout for that section of the homepage is completely messed up. The containers switch to the default background color, the info boxes all smash together on the absolute far left of the screen, one or all of the info boxes are monster-sized, or some combo of all of these problems. But this doesn’t happen all the time–it’s only every so often when I visit the site, and yet other times it’s displaying exactly as shown in the editor. I’m fairly familiar with padding/spacing, etc., and I don’t see issues with my block settings.

(Mobile typically isn’t effected, except the picture part of the info boxes sometimes disappear on mobile, and sometimes don’t, if that’s related)

    Please help!

  • Hi @mistersmoke,

I noticed that you are using W3 Total Cache plugin. So, whenever you face the problem, please try clear the site cache, then check your site on an incognito/private window browser. See if your site layout looks fine.

If your site is looking fine after you clear the cache, then please reconfigure your cache plugin, so it won’t cause such an issue.

Anyway, it’s not about the W3 Total Cache plugin, but it’s more related to the cache.

Please let us know how you go.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

    Hi Herman,

Purging the cache did cause it to display correctly in incognito mode but not my normal browser (presumably because of browser caching). So it does seem to be caused by the cache–how does this interact with Astra to cause this problem? I’m not sure what cache settings to change since I don’t know how the cache is breaking the layout.

Hi @mistersmoke, thank you for the update.

Maybe due to the cache, the page page still loads a CSS file that is no longer exist. By clearing the cache, the page loads to the correct CSS file.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

Hello, I noticed, with or without a cache plugin, the same problem when creating three small sites to test the Astra theme. And I manage to reproduce this problem by refreshing (F5) the page several times and not just the home page on the three sites. Looks like the stylesheet isn’t loaded on refresh? Annoying for sites in production.

Even afterwards with an empty cache, this happens again.

    Hi @doczimute,

As per the forum guidelines, please start your own thread. You are welcome to cross-link it to this thread, so we are aware of both.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
