Hide categories from Subscribers

I’m trying to make VIP category to my public community website that should only be accessible and posted to by VIP members. Regular subscribers can register and post in all other sections.

I have made a VIP user group that are the only ones who can post in this VIP section. I would like to make it so regular WP Subscribers can’t see this hidden section.

I thought it was working, but apparently not too well. Posts that the admins post to the VIP category are hidden from subscribers, but VIP posts done by the VIPs are viewable by everyone.

why is this? and how can i make it so the VIP category is only viewable by the VIP user group? I can’t wrap my head around how to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated.
