I haven’t used WP for a few years and things have changed a bit!

I want to use one of the templates for a simple Home page for a non-blog website. When I add a new page there is no choice of template (that I can see). When I add a new page I get a “choose new pattern” pop-up which shows what I thought are templates. So I’m confused.

maybe I have to start with one of those patterns and then remove unwanted blocks/parts?

Is there any tutorial or help on changing the blocks of a page layout? I tried but removing some parts in the footer messed up the menu at the top!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi
There are tutorials available on learn.www.remarpro.com. Here are some related to the home page:

How to approach this depends on what is easiest for you.
    – You can just delete the blocks on the current home template and adjust it any way you want.

But it sounds like you want to use a page, that you assign as the home page in the reading settings?
If using the default page template does not work for your needs, you can create a custom page template either:

    • When editing the page in the block editor, with the option Template > Create new template that you can find in the page tab in the settings sidebar.
    • From the “Add new template” button on Appearance > Editor > Templates, and selecting the custom template. Then opening the page again and assigning the template using the option Template > Swap template and choosing your template.

Among the larger patterns that you see when you create a new page are some full page layouts.
These are designed to help you create home page and landing pages.

The difference is that these patterns do not include a site header and site footer. Those are added by the template. The pattern is inserted as the content between them.

I tried to delete the Title block but it doesn’t appear to be a “block” -it’s not clickable. The other blocks are clickable.

So the “Title” isn’t a block. Any ideas please?

That is correct, the title at the top of the page and post editor is not a block. It is where you enter the title and it does not affect the layout. This is part of the editor and it is unrelated to the theme and the selected template.
