No idea why suddenly it is asking me this. I have 2 site running on WP3.1a and the other one does not have that problem. So not a 3.1a bug, must be someting else

I am of course login as admin but suddenly it started asking for the password

  • The requirement to provide FTP credentials for upgrades/updates appears to be server specific. If both sites are with the same host, try asking your host what the difference is between the 2 servers.

Hmm! thanks I will investigate that. Both are on the same VPS server and I made some changes last week that might have triggered then….this forum is great fast and knowlegeable answers

If you haven’t figured it out yet you have to go to Configure PHP and SuExec in your WHM panel if you are using Linux hosting with WHM/Cpanel and change your handlers. You have to change both PHP 4 and PHP 5 to SUphp. This will fix your issues in your .htaccess file. This took me a whole day to figure out ?? But I have a blog farm and wasn’t able to mass update causing serious problems. Hope this helps.
