I got my WordPress blog when I got my domain and hosting with Network Solutions. Everything was fine until I started receiving a lot of spam comments. I now want to install Akismet, but I don’t seem to have an API key. It doesn’t appear in my profile on my dashboard. I tried to sign in to wordpress.com, but my username and password aren’t accepted — I guess because I originally signed up with Network Solutions, not wordpress.com. How do I get an API key? Or is there any other anti-spam plugin that I can install?

    Thanks.

Get a WordPress.com account. They are free. Then get your API key from them.

Thank you! I could activate it now.

Since I’ve moved to China, I haven’t been able to get https://WordPress.com/profile to come up. It always times out so now I can’t get access to my Akismet key.

I don’t know what the problem is. It’s been consistently timing out for a month now.

I have an older installation of WordPress that has the key. Anyone know what file I can find the key in? Or perhaps it’s in the DB?

    Thanks,

Registering for a new WordPress account times out as well. I’m kind of stuck here. I think I need to find the key in my old installation. My old installation is the blog which I migrated to the new installation. Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to get the UI up to look at the akismet settings.

Right now, I think the easiest thing is to retrieve the key from it’s storage location. But where is it stored at? MySql?
