• Hey there,

I really like this plugin – but am hoping to use it for slightly more stuff:

I’m just wondering if it’s possible to display the ‘Artist Name’ – as I would like to show two different artist gigs on the same page. I have two acts under one ‘label’ on ArtistData – it’d be great if I could use the “ArtistData XML feed URL” for both so I could have one above the other on my page – might this be possible?

Also, if there was a way of showing past gigs, but having them grey’ed out that would be pretty awesome.

The only glitch i’m experiencing, is the order is a bit weird. Is it possible to customise the ordering?

    Thanks loads!

    Martin

  • Hey Martin,

Thanks for the new posting. ??

The artist name would just be something you type into the page you display the calendar on, it wouldn’t need to come from ADP.

As far as displaying more than one feed, I’ll have to look into doing that. Widgets have an easy way to do more than one instance, but plugins typically don’t. ADP is not currently setup to display more than one feed, so I don’t know how that would work currently without using ADP and multiple ArtistData iFrames at the same time.

The order of the shows is actually determined by Artistdata. ADP just takes their raw feed and displays it on a page. It’s not re-ordering any of the shows, just spitting them out in the order they came from ArtistData. From my experience, it should be showing shows with the soonest first and latest last – what’s it doing for you?

I’ll look into how to multiple instances so you could display more than one artist and/or past shows also. Graying out the past shows (if it were on there) would just be a CSS thing.

    Hi Slushman,

thanks for the reply. I see what you mean about typing the artist name on the page – that would work for one artist… However, I’ve done things slightly different to try and make it work for how I want to use it.

I created a ‘label’ account, under which I have my solo stuff, and my band. Then I used the code for that label to insert into my wordpress page – so that it will show both the band gigs, and my solo gigs. However, the ‘Artist’ field within artist data isn’t shown in the post and isn’t an option in the plugin settings… I’ve gotten around this by making the event name “Martin Brooks @(gig venue)” or “Slow Wolf @(gig venue)” – but this looks weird when it’s posted to other websites…

So I was hoping I might be able to add that in – or that it might be available in the future…

The page in question is here:

    https://www.martinbrooksmusic.com/gigs/

    I’m still building the website…

As for the order – my next gig is tomorrow night – but it’s not appearing at the top of the list, one next month is though… I’m hoping to fix that if possible?

I used the “ArtistData XML feed URL” for future and past gigs as I’d like this page to have lots on it and, once I get it how I want it, with a list of past shows… It’d be ideal if I could have the past gigs at the bottom or grey’d as I mentioned – but maybe i’m just asking too much!

I’ve never done any css stuff, so I’ll have to look into that more…

so yes – if it is possible to display more than one feed that’d be amazing! Any help you can give is massively appreciated.

    Thanks very much!

    Martin

It’s possible that the Label account feed is formatted differently than an artist account feed. Can you also give the URL you’re using in the preferences?

    Hey,

Do you mean the ‘Artist data profile URL’ that I used in the ArtistDataPress Options page in wordpress?

    This is it:
    https://www.artistdata.com/dashboard/profile/edit/id/57033

That’s actually a good point though – The ‘label’ account doesn’t have it’s own profile page so I used the ‘martin brooks’ one. So perhaps this is causing an issue?

    Thanks very much,

    Martin

No, sorry. I meant the XML feed URL for the shows. Can you post that one instead?

By the way, that URL won’t work for the Artistdata Profile page. That is actually a link to the backend of Artistdata. Is this your public profile page?

    Ah,

    The XML feed is this:

    https://feeds.artistdata.com/xml.shows/org/MO-F658E7F944CFFD8B/xml

Yes – I guess that is my public profile page, I actually haven’t looked at any of my public pages on artist data, as so far I’ve just thought of it as a tool to connect my other sites together!

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi again –

If you have any help, the problems above are still unresolved…

One thing that would perhaps help, is if there is any way of running multiple instances of the artist data press plugin?? That way I could have one for solo stuff, and then one for band stuff, one above the other on a page… If I could do that I’d use the band & solo page XML feeds instead of the ‘label’ one, and that might fix the date order issue too…

Is there any way I could use two ArtistDataPress plugins at the same time??

    Thanks very much,

    Martin

    Hey Martin,

Unfortunately, there’s not a way to run multiple instances of any plugin (aside from widgets) – the WP plugin architecture just doesn’t allow it. I suppose one could try to build that architecture, but that would be a long-term project and nothing I’d be able to code any time soon.

The simplest solution at this point would be to add the Artist’s Name in the layout and I’m currently looking at how best to do that.

    Hi Slushman,

Thanks for looking into the above, much appreciated. Do you think it will be possible?

I have another question if that’s ok? Might it be possible to customise how the date is displayed – so it says the Day / Month (word not numbers) / year – so it would read like this:

    Wed 16th May, 2012

(I’ve also realised that the current display options are a little confusing as the UK standard is day / month / year – not month / day / year…)

Once again, hugely appreciate your help!

    Martin
