    Hello,

I have started my blog a month ago and I am using Yoast SEO version 15.9.1.

My current problem is that all the articles I write are not indexed by Google. It seems that only pages and categories are well indexed and returned (for example when I do a google search with “site:metacosme.me”)

I have read the support forum and the documentation and did just as described in https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google and https://yoast.com/help/fetch-as-googlebot/

Here is a summary of what I have done/checked so far :
    – In the Yoast SEO settings I have checked that the XML sitemap is enabled

    – In the Google Search Console, sitemaps section, I have uploaded ‘ https://metacosme.me/sitemap_index.xml
    * It says that it was successfully processed but that zero urls where discovered (https://imgur.com/ONlC5enhttps://imgur.com/sv556ho)
    * I did it for the first time on February 15th 2021
    * I did it again on March 5th 2021 but still the same

    – In the Google Search Console, coverage section, I have only 6 urls (my 3 pages and my 3 categories)
*It says that pages where indexed but not recovered through a sitemap (https://imgur.com/9nyLJ08https://imgur.com/PIJKbjo )

    – In the Google Search Console, I also tried to directly look at one of my article using the url inspection tool
    * It says that the page is not indexed
    * I tried a live test and everything seems to be valid (https://imgur.com/qfiUaOJ)
    * I tried to request an indexation and it says that my request as been approved (i’m sure I did this on February, I did it again today to be sure)

So in a nutshell it seems that the sitemap is somehow not working. I am new to this and don’t know what else I can do to fix that.

Any hint would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Isabelle

@metacosme We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

Can you please provide us with an example URL of one of the pages that is included in your sitemap, but that Google is not indexing?

As for the sitemap itself, we checked on it in a XML sitemap validator here and it didn’t report any issues with it.

Regarding the message you received in Google Search Console, if the URLs in question are included in the sitemap and you still receive the message of ‘the url is indexed but not through Sitemap’ this occurs when Googlebot discovered those URLs by other means and not through the sitemap. For example, Googlebot may have found the URLs from internal links or possibly from links on another site.

    Hello @devnihil,

    Thanks for your answer.

Here is an example of a post url that is inside the sitemap but not indexed by google.
    – URL: https://metacosme.me/index.php/2021/02/05/theorie-de-la-desintegration-positive-de-dabrowski/
    – Screenshot of Google search console for this particular URL shows that it’s not indexed by Google: https://imgur.com/OT2iRG6
    – However when I look inside the XML sitemap it’s inside: https://metacosme.me/index.php/post-sitemap.xml

By the way regarding the url I manually asked for a reindexing yesterday, it seems that today it’s well indexed.
    – URL: https://metacosme.me/index.php/2021/02/05/haut-potentiel-et-apres/
    – Screenshot of google search console for this particular URL shows that it’s well indexed by Google: https://imgur.com/CUIgmWH
    – The highlighted part means “indexed but not sent via sitemap”

So if I request indexing manually it seems to work but it doesn’t when it’s done through the sitemap. It’s not very convenient because it means I would have to do it each time I write a new article.

Is there anything else I can do ?

    Regards,
    Isabelle

    Hi Isabelle,

We looked at https://metacosme.me/index.php/2021/02/05/theorie-de-la-desintegration-positive-de-dabrowski/ and there is nothing we can see which is preventing Google from crawling it. Yoast is outputting the right tags in the source code for Google to use. See image: https://ibb.co/0XfN2kn.

We are not sure why you are having to do a manual re-index. We are not sure why Google is deciding it has been indexed but not via the sitemap.

While we are not sure what all actions have been done with the sitemap in Google, we suggest the following actions:

    1. Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide:?https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

    2. Delete your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom):?https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

    3. Submit the sitemap again. Be sure to submit only sitemap_index.xml and nothing else.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/.

    4. Monitor the results to see if the issue resolves and pages get indexed.

    5. If the issues continue, we suggest contacting Google for more information as Yoast is outputting the data correctly. You may?contact Google by making a post on their forums:?https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters.

I have followed your advice. I have just deleted and submitted the sitemap again.
If it still doesn’t work I will try to contact Google using your link.

    Hi,

Yes, please do resubmit your sitemap and monitor for changes in the indexed URLs, and please do feel free to contact the Google Search Central Help Community for further clarification as the Yoast SEO plugin output does certainly seem to indicate that your posts should be indexed and showing in the search results. We wish you the best of luck!
