Article Prevews

So we recently started a website for sports analysis and one of our key features is conversation style articles. One thing that has been bothering us is the article previews in the website. The text starts reading off the entire article regardless of formatting, as you can see here:

What are the best options for making this look better? Is there a way I can put an abstract into the preview without actually adding it to the article itself? Sorry if anything was unclear and any help would be much appreciated.
