• Hi Everyone,
Just tinkering with a new theme design. I created archive.php and 404.php files from scratch. When I try to load them by calling them directly in my browser I get a file not found message (ironic that not even the 404 page comes up). The rest of the pages work perfectly so I think it’s strange that these two files are not displaying. But they are present in the server, so how can that be? Final note: WordPress is installed in a subdomain, but I don’t think that’s the problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

That’s the wrong way to test them. You can test the 404 by simply entering a non-existent page/post url in your browser’s address bar.

I tried that and it still doesn’t work. Neither the Archive.php or 404.php file.

So I tried calling the same files with the default theme and had the same problem. So that makes it a server issue, not a theme issue. maybe .htaccess, or it could be because it’s located in a subdomain.
