• I’m a programmer but not experienced in web programming, and I’m fairly new to WP. I just stumbled on a page I created in some kind of visual builder (not sure which one; my theme has several) and noticed the shortcodes.

I suddenly realized that if I can restructure a page by slapping some shortcodes on it, that’s a lot more efficient than dragging and dropping a ton of things. For instance, I’m trying to redo my FAQ section as an accordion and having to copy and paste a lot of stuff, while clicking back and forth.

I’m not sure exactly what I have, so I’ll say the general purpose theme I bought last week is Jevelin, and it includes WPBakery and YellowPencil. The editor page has buttons marked “backend editor” and “frontend editor.”

So my questions are, can I do all of this with shortcodes? using the plugins I already purchased, or other plugins (perhaps free)?

I’ve searched a little for these answers, and what’s not clear to me is whether shortcodes with Jevelin/WpBakery are meant for true productivity and normal usage, or if they are meant to be avoided or converted to something else.

If I can do my entire webpage, adding any necessary elements, with shortcodes, I greatly prefer that (as you can imagine a programmer would!).

  • It would not be advised to add all elements with short codes because all that will do is create a slow loading page while the content loads from other parts of the database.

To answer your question, though, you can create short codes for anything. However, out of the box short codes are used sparingly. Where it comes to YellowPencil and WPBakery both plugins provide short codes of their own and you can always create your own short codes using the Shortcode API.

    Hope this helps
