Are iCal Feeds dynamic

    My experience of iCal feeds in other systems (e.g. Google calendar) is that they provide dynamic updates to computer calendars. The iCal feed on event manager has created a copy of EM events in my (Apple) calendar, but when the EM event is deleted the copy on my computer remains. Other users have reported this in Outlook too.

    Is this expected behaviour for Event Manager?

  • When adding the iCal feed to your calendar, you can set the refresh rate. I think Mac’s iCal sets it in default to “once a year”? I personally set it to “daily”.

    An iCal feed does not use “push”, so you would have to fetch it. Takes about 5 seconds ??

    You can also manually refresh the feed, CMD+R in the Calendar App.

    Hi Patrick, that is what I would have expected to happen but CMD + R is not resulting in the deleted event disappearing from my calendar.

    If I delete and then re-add the calendar (by navigating to \events.ics) the calendar is added but with no option to set the refresh frequency. On re-adding the calendar the deleted event is gone, but it looks as though it has imported a static copy of the calendar rather than setting up a feed.

    Following the instructions on this page: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/calendar/subscribe-to-calendars-icl1022/mac it says to use File > New Calendar Subscription, rather than navigating to the .ics URL. This then gives a dialog where you can set the refresh frequency (the default is weekly) If you then Cmd-click on the calendar and “Get Info” it shows as a subscription.

    So I’m hoping that has resolved it, but it might be worth updating your page to explain how to subscribe to a feed on Apple. Once I’ve checked it is now updating I will pass the information on to my users.

    I guess it depends on what program you are using. Apple iCal and BusyCal immediately add it as a feed subscription.

    Hopefully the EM team will update the page then. Thank you for responding personally, you give better support than the EM team ??

    I’m using the standard Apple Calendar that comes with MacOS and is called Calendar. I would have expected it to add as a feed subscription, but that isn’t what happened when I tested as described above.

    I’m an old-school Mac lover myself, so in my head it’s still called iCal. LOL. They changed it I think, about 4 years ago…

    The EM Support team do what they can and often that is more than enough. ?? Of course this is a free forum, so their Pro support forum gets (logically) more attention.

    Still, I’m glad to help out.
