Complete WP noob here. This is my first few days of using WP. I keep trying to get Archives to work on my site and they just won’t work. I drag the widget into my sidebar in the position I want it and save it. Nothing. Doesn’t show a single thing about my Archives in the sidebar. So I tried a couple of the visiblity options – nothing. I tried the one by Category and then I tried the one by date – I set it to monthly archives. I have posts going back to 2007, so it should be showing something. It’s probably me, but what am I doing wrong here? It seems like it should be a pretty basic little widget.

My site is AdriansCrazyLife.com if you want to have a look.

Try deleting all Widget Visibility options for that widget, and save your changes. If the widget starts appearing, your visibility settings were properly set to hide the widget on the page where you were trying to view it.

If that doesn’t help, could you send me a screenshot of the widget settings? You can use https://snag.gy/ to post your screenshot here.

    Thanks!

Thank you, that worked, but now all it is showing is the names of the months. Can I configure it to show the names of the posts? If you are trying to tempt people to read your older posts, the names of the months isn’t very compelling.

That’s indeed how the Archives Widget works. You could look for different Archives widgets in the plugin repository. You should find what you’re looking for there. Once you have found a widget that could do the trick, go to Plugins > Add New in your dashboard, search and install the plugin, and then go to Appearance > Widgets tot use it.

    I hope this helps.
