When using the new remove category base option the category archive pages returns a 404 page.

    Example
/pictures – index page of category archive works fine
/pictures/page/2 – pagination of category does not work
/category/pictures/page/2 – works fine even when category base is removed

Should the /category/pictures path still exist? Shouldn’t it redirect to the new archive path?

Can someone confirm if this works on your site when using the latest Yoast and removing category base?

We apologize for any inconvenience. Please, make sure that remove the categories prefix option is set to remove from the Yoast SEO → Search Appearance → Taxonomies (tab) options.

If the remove option is set on the remove the categories prefix option and the category is appearing in the categories URL, can you please reset the permalink structure directly from the WordPress permalinks settings and hit the save button without changing anything to check whether it removes the category from the categories URL or whether it resolves the 404 error on the categories?

I hit save without changing anything on WordPress permalink settings and it works now! Thank you very much.
