You basically just need to update which posts WordPress is getting when on an author archive and include the CPT as well. The pre_get_posts hook is perfect for this.

This works for me:

function add_custom_types_in_archives( $query ) {
    if( is_author() && empty( $query->query_vars['suppress_filters'] ) ) {
        $query->set( 'post_type', array('post', 'word') );
        return $query;
    }
}
add_filter( 'pre_get_posts', 'add_custom_types_in_archives');
