• The About and Archive links on the main page link to the about and archive folders but there is no page to display. Everything else seems to be working correctly. Were we suppose to “create” those pages ? Since the pages are missing by default, any user clicking on the link gets the error. Could someone direct us to the proper process to create a default “about” and “Archive” page so our visitors will not get this error. This is a clean install of 2.3.3.
    Many Thanks
    Steve

  • Those links are probably hard-coded into your header.php file of your current theme. If your not comfortable editing your header.php yourself paste the complete contents of it to https://wordpress.pastebin.ca and report the link here and then we can show you what to change.

they (the links) assume he/she is using pretty permalinks. I was going to suggest just turning those one but …

    Jeremy,

Many thanks for the quick reply.
I am not sure if I want to edit and remove the links…but was wondering if I should have placed a page there for the links to open. The folders “archive” and “about” exist and were created by the system, however, there is simply no page to display. the folders are empty. I was thinking that at the least, a default page should have been there. What is your opinion ?
I am new to the system so getting my feet wet quick. Is there an “Archive System” in the WP2.3.3 that can be used in teh future to move older blogs… I apologize in advance if I have missed obvious FAQ’s on this subject.
Your expertise is greatly appreciated !

I was going to suggest just turning those one but … didnt want to get ahead of the learning curve.

WordPress doesn’t use folders or directories — the content of your posts and pages is stored in a database, and rendered dynamically.

You have an about page, its here:

    https://friendsofbaldwin.com/blog/?page_id=2

You’ll need enable pretty permalinks like whooami said then. It’s done in your option panel and under permalinks. The only reason I suggested editing them is if your setup can’t generate pretty permalinks those links would always be dead.

    Jeremey, Who,

I am going there now to take a look… back shortly.
Who, the blog I was referring to is at perdidobeachonline.com/blog not at friendsofbaldwin.
I suppose FOB has a similar issue also.
I thank you both for hanging in here with me..

    Jeremy, Who,
I can see the “Customize Permalink Structure” but due to my “newness” I have to just say I have no idea what “pretty permalinks” are…

I think I understand the permalink alteration options I would have in my default 2.33 setup using ONE plugin called “cleaner dashboard”….
and, I think I understand the header.php edit you mentioned. Guess I will have to go and read up on some permalink usage… The quick solution I suppose is to remove the links but then I will never understand “archive and about”….
Any and all suggestions are very welcome….
Thank you both so much for your time !
    Steve
