I received an email from clean talk that showed a comment that was not spam, but the comment is not showing up on my website. Legitimate comments are set to be automatically approved. Additionally, I am not receiving any notification when a legitimate comment is made. The email with the legitimate comment came in a report a couple days after the comment was made. How do I view comments and how do I get them to show up on my website? The comments area of my website which usually has all the comments is totally empty.

(I am using version 4.9, but that is not an option on this form.)

    Hello,

Can I have the website URL? I should check our logs and test the website by myself.

    Thanks!

    Thank you for the URL.

Ok, the plugin allowed my dummy comment (sender “cleantalk”). So, you should see it All queue. Is the comment there?

If not, please check Spam queue. If you still have no comment. Please,

    1. Deactivate Anti-spam by CleanTalk here,

    WordPress backend -> Plugins

    2. Do dummy guest (not from WordPress admin) comment.

    3. Check comments section. Is the comment there?

So I deactivated Anti-spam by cleantalk and left a comment on my site like you said and it still did not show up. But the saddest thing is all my existing comments have also disappeared.

So for the last year or so I have been paying for Askimet. I decided to try your service for a trial. When the trial was over, I paid for the one year plan of CLeantalk and deleted Askimet from my website.

Then when I got my cleantalk email with my legitimate comment, I realized I could not find it anywhere on my website. When I click on comments in wordpress, it says 0 of all of them. It says I have no spam, no anything.

I logged into phpmyadmin and under the status tab I saw this:

So that is right about the time I bought clean talk. (This MySQL server has been running for 17 days…)

I’m not sure why the MySQL server has only been running for 17 days unless something happened on my website that I don’t know about or Clean talk reset something.?

    Thanks for details!

CleanTalk plugin doesn’t delete any approved comments, the plugin only deletes spam comments if you set option ‘Automatically delete spam comments’ in plugin settings.

Did you post dummy comment when CleanTalk was deactivated? Is this comment didn’t appear in WordPress backend too?

I can’t test your website by my self right now, because the plugin is active again.

Any way, it’s very important to test comments when the CleanTalk is deactivated. It should help us to find the reason of issue.

About lost comments. Do you have WordPress backup? I think it’s the best way to restore comments.

    (@tdnkthoff)

Hi, I was able to restore all the lost comments. Yay! So now the only comments that have not shown up on my website are the ones that have been approved through Cleantalk. I only know about the comments because of the CleanTalk email that lets me know. But I can’t find them on my website.

I will deactivate CleanTalk right now for testing.

    Hi,

I just have tested and plugin still is active. Please let me as you deactivate the plugin.
