Apply Template Programatically

I am looking to apply custom templates to pages programmatically, depending on different factors (eg. Is the page a child in a hierarchy).
From Elementor’s documentation, I did find the “elementor/frontend/the_content” action, but I am unable to find a way to apply a custom template to a page without manually setting the page in the “templates” settings.
