I noted today that my _blank and nofollow tags had dropped off a specific section of post pages on my site.

The latest update to WP and another plugin i use has created a few challenges in the last 2 weeks with updates – possibly related.

When seeing my tags were gone today I tested yours and another without success and then found one that provides no selection options but it does give me the nofollow and _blank across the site.

You might wish to take a look. My issue is solved for now yet I really like your setup and would like to return to it.

Link to site with the problem?

Hi Mike, thank you for replying – the site is IslandRealEstate.com.

Presently using the alternative – can put yours in place if that would help the analysis. (the pages that the _blank and nofollow ‘fell off’ of, were the property specific posts.

Which page/pages have links external to your site?

Hello Mike – thanks for your patience and for looking at this (thought I already replied – but only in my mind it seems).

One format is on this page, just above right of social media icons “Visit our website”: islandrealestate.com/view/1-bed-condo-380/

I use to have links on this type of page in the right “Visit my Site”: islandrealestate.com/view/1-bed-condo-380/ but when the problem surfaced I removed and routed all through the single source page above.

If any other info needed, just let me know. jimii

I am not seeing the Visit my (or Our) Site link or text.

I see the social icons though.

Thank you for you patience – typically am not this thick (previous was same page twice).

This page format now has one in the upper right sidebar, where it was before the issue resulting in my removal of it. (“Visit My” three lines below the box logo): islandrealestate.com/view/1-bed-condo-380/

And this page format has one at the bottom of this page (right of center above the footer):
    islandrealestate.com/agents/dominican-republic/american-realty-dr/

I think the links you are referring to are from the AddThis plugin. It uses placeholder links to the external sites and substitutes them. I have put some code in that may fix this issue (at least with AddThis). Let me know if there is any change in the 6.3 version.

That’s not it but i certainly appreciate your effort – I’ve switched your plugin in back “on” to test and have left it temporarily if you wish to see how it is or isn’t working as it use to or as intended .

On the site at this page’s address /view/rio-grande-puerto-rico-4284/

Half way down the page there is a youtube video link that isn’t being tagged as _blank or as nofollow.

Just to the right of it in the sidebar there is text link for “Visit Our WebSite” that suffers from the same issue.

I cant leave this in place too long as all the out links are now without the ‘nofollow’ but thought this might help. thank you again

I copied the link code. I’ll test those links to see.

And you tried the Apply Globally setting, correct?

    Thread Starter jimii

    (@jimii)

    Hi Mike, thank you –

Oddly enough I can confirm – global and all selections are checked in the options except for the convert text urls to clickable…

I say oddly because in checking for your question, when i un-click the ‘apply global’ the YouTube video link functions with no-follow and _blank as wanted. When I re-check ‘apply global’ it no longer applies globally. (The sidebar link however still does not apply the “no follow or blank attribute” which i can live with. Its an individual one-time per client setup that I can do anyway on the admin side..

The odd part is that this is the second time I’ve seen this – where unclicking a function intended to provide an intended result provides the wanted result and clicking the option does not… So effectively my issue is resolved with this – but why would it be working in reverse…

Actually this helps immensely and makes perfect sense now.

When you use Apply Globally a technique is used to grab the entire output of the webpage and then process links. What seems to be happening is you have another plugin (or the theme itself) also using this technique, which is perfect acceptable. I believe this other plugin is ending this output grabbing incorrectly and not just closing it’s session but any other plugin doing the same (you can nest them). So this is why you don’t see any changes occurring with Apply Globally on, but you do with it off (a different technique is used in that case).

Hi Mike – thank you for this – (experienced a similar issue with another plugin (ai1 seo)as well – likely the same session ‘behavior’ causing this).

The theme is twenty ten, but this page type in the example is generated by the plugin wp-property (Usability Dynamics) as a ‘post’ page I believe. Possibly an update they did in Sept, plus the WP update at the same time – and twenty ten as well – seems to have created an environment for this to occur somehow.

You’ve been very helpful on this and I really appreciate it. I’ll see if i can spot the open session you reference and see if I can get it fixed with the wp-property plugin if it is them.

    Thank you!
