I’ve had a successful RSS feed for some years using the Blubrry PowerPress plugin but last weekend Apple informed me that there were rejecting it. I corrected the issues I could identify and resubmitted it but now it fails validation with MXPodcastPublishSubmit.SSLError.

An Apple consultant is investigating but has had no luck. My hosting provider says that dozens of hosting companies are experiencing similar problems.

Can anyone shed light on this here? My feed https://stjudes.church/feed/podcast/

    Thanks!

Thanks. I emailed Blubrry Support three days ago but heard nothing. I’ve emailed them again.

    Hello @stjudesnottm,

Our support email as well as our contact form go into a support ticket system. For some reason I cannot find an email from St Jude or just “stjude” in the last 14 days. It may be that our system is not identifying you email address correctly, or it may be coming in from a different address, or perhaps our email servers are not recognizing it, sorry if that is the case. Just in case I am also posting this reply here in the forums.

The “MXPodcastPublishSubmit.SSLError” message, Apple is having an issue with your SSL web server for some reason. I see from your website that you are using LetsEncrypt, which is compatible with Apple podcasts. I did run your host name through SSLLabs to check it and I do see there are errors for the 2 recent versions of Java. Ref: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=stjudes.church

Unfortunately Apple uses Java for the feed pulling and podcast directory system.

SSL is not something that PowerPress or even WordPress for that matter handles, this is an infrastructure level problem that your web host would need to fix. I would insist with your web hosting company that they resolve the issue between your web server and SSL labs, ref link: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=stjudes.church Once their servers support Java 11 and Java 12 you should no longer see the MXPodcastPublishSubmit.SSLError from Apple.

Alternatively, you can use a free service to get around the issue: https://podcastmirror.com. You can also use FeedBurner hosted by Google to achieve the same result.

    Thanks,
    Angelo

Thanks, Angelo. I have registered with Blubrry under a different email address so it would be difficult to tie them up.

I have also had a reply from your support centre suggesting I use the Podcast Mirror service.

So I’ll investigate that and also the Java issue, which I’ll take up with my hosting provider.
