Apple News Publishing/API Errors

    Anyone having the following API errors and know how to fix? It’s preventing articles to publish to my Apple News channel.

    1) THE FOLLOWING JSON ERRORS WERE DETECTED AND PREVENTED PUBLISHING: INVALID UNICODE CHARACTER SEQUENCES WERE FOUND THAT COULD CAUSE DISPLAY ISSUES ON APPLE NEWS: …”

    Many of my articles have ellipsis so I am hoping there is a workaround.

    2) THERE HAS BEEN AN ERROR WITH THE API: THERE HAS BEEN AN ERROR WITH YOUR REQUEST: CURL ERROR 28: OPERATION TIMED OUT AFTER 30001 MILLISECONDS WITH 0 OUT OF -1 BYTES RECEIVED

    This is happening on several of my articles ??

    I can confirm timeouts over the past week or so – not always but a lot. Wondering if it’s at Apple’s end?

    I also have formatting errors that weren’t there before – extra spaces between paragraphs. I’ve seen this on other website’s feeds.

    For #1, that looks like a bug within the plugin, where the combination of two unicode characters in a row (ellipsis and right double quote), are getting captured and flagged as an indication of a problem (even though a problem is not actually present). I’ve filed an issue on GitHub to track a fix: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/issues/458. In the meantime, you can change the plugin settings for JSON Alerts from “fail” to “warn” – that way the JSON error will not prevent the publishing of your post to Apple News.

    For #2, the cause of the timeout definitely could be on Apple’s end. Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about that with regards to the plugin; although I do suggest using the “Remote Images” setting within the plugin if you aren’t already, particularly if you’re noticing the timeouts are happening on image-heavy posts.
