Yesterday, I also didn’t have the plug ins page, but by researching and trying different suggestions, I now have that. Of course, I managed to lose ALL my plugins. ??
I renamed my theme file (following the same line of reasoning as the plug ins), now I have Twenty Fourteen, but I still have no way to get to the Appearance/Themes links to change it back to the Foxy theme. I get page not found. Oh also just noted that under Dashboard/home/updates, the update link is not working either. The site I’m working on first is https://asgaardkennel.com/
I’m having this issue on both sites, and it appears now I may have even more issues on https://allthingsbiothane.com/ One site at a time however. ??
    Thanks in advance.
    Shonie

  • Have you tried:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I reset the plug ins folder to start with, then I started replacing folders, which is how I accidentally deleted all my plugins. ?? I Have replaced (uggg) probably the admin and includes, and also the plug ins and themes from content, but not all the files down the line as I was confused on which ones should stay or be deleted. Comes from reading TOO many threads from google. ??
I will try this today and see how it goes, thank you esmi.

OK Couldn’t get to it yesterday, but have done this now and still have the same issues.

Yes, trying to get this one fixed and going before I work on the other one.

OK – without changing anything, can you tell me what menu items you do have access to in your admin area?

Sorry site is being slow. I get Dashboard but not the Update tab. Posts, Media, and Comments all work fine. If I click on Appearance I get page not found, however, in the submenu Themes doesn’t work either, but all others do. All Plugin menus work. Users, Tools, Settings all work.

    Sorry site is being slow

Hmm… that might be a symptom of the overall problem. Can you try checking your site’s error logs for messages. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

In CPanel under “error logs” it says “Error Log

This function will display the last 300 errors for your site. This can be very useful for finding broken links or problems with missing files. Checking this log frequently can help keep your site running smoothly.
Last 300 Error Log messages in reverse order:”
It’s empty. I maybe should have specified that it was slow when I clicked the links that aren’t working, all other times it was fine.

On some hosting environments, aggressive settings for the “mod_pagespeed” addon can break the javascript code and cause scripts to not be able to function. This can cause many problems, such as widgets not working, menus not being draggable, the customizer not working, or the media screens not being available.

To fix the issue, you will need to disable mod_pagespeed, or adjust its settings to not take effect in the wp-admin directories. You may need to ask your hosting service for help on how to do this.

OK that is something I will have to look into tomorrow as I have to work today.
However, if everything was working when I set the sites up, would this have suddenly changed for some reason? And be the cause of those particular links not working? As of the time before this when I updated WP everything worked fine?

would this have suddenly changed for some reason

If your hosts made changes to the server’s configuration, then yes.

And be the cause of those particular links not working?

Possibly, yes. I can see no other obvious reason for this.

    Ok Thank You esmi
I will look into this tomorrow then let you know what I find.
Thanks so much for your help.

    WELL! Here was the issue:
[Kim] OH MY WORD! What was the issue? Working on ATBB site.
03:42:13 PM [Malcom M] The new version of WordPress does not work with older versions of php so I incresed it to 5.3

Researching their support and forums for “mod_pagespeed” addon indicated that they don’t allow/use that addon on shared servers. So I went to chat support and it took him about two seconds to fix it. Never dawned on me to check the php versions!

Thank You so much for your help, esmi. Maybe some other web toddler like myself will come across the same sort of issues. ??

Glad to hear that you have got this sorted. ??
