• Initially I had the blog in my main url, just changed it to /blog. On my wife’s computer I saw the default template. I didn’t check to see it on mine, just went about moving it to the right place. When I type /blog after my url it shows up, but not in template form. It looks like it’s totally unskinned. Any ideas why & do I need to do anything before adding my template of choice to supercede it?

• You have to go to the admin screen and select (activate) the theme of your choice. Make sure the theme was copied to the wp-content/themes/foldername/ with foldername being the name of the style (without spaces). Once it is activated, you should be able to see it.

Thanks Lorelle, can you tell me how to go to the admin screen?

there should be a link to either log-in or site admin

https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin if your install was in the root or
https://yourdomain.com/subfolder/wp-admin if in a subfolder

this is of course if you don’t find the login button on your page

I tried both ways but got a page not found error. Could there be something that I haven’t installed or activated yet?

what’s your site address, it usually helps….

It may have compliated matters when you changed the folders though…

It’s https://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog. Thanks for your interest.

hmm there’s some weird stuff in your address doode. Clicking on Login takes me to https://www.scoremoreclients.com. with a period at the end of it and then a slash, you may want to check that as it messes up the login, and it doesn’t redirect towards the install folder.

If you don’t have a lot in the way of content, you may find it easier to reinstall and install to the folder you specificlaly want.

https://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog/wp-login.php

is where your login page is

I noticed several other links do the same with the period at the end of the URI, this may perhaps be causing the style problems.

On further inspection:

< link rel=”stylesheet” href=”https://www.scoremoreclients.com./wp-content/themes/default/style.css” type=”text/css” media=”screen” />

Change the address to remove the period – you have that in all your links in are referring to link rel. If you still don’t see the style, change to wahtever.com/blog/wp-content/theme path here/

Thanks, first could there be some global change I could make that would change all of these? Since I didn’t change them individually it seems like I may have made the mistake in creation and perhaps one shot could fix it all. (Hey you can’t blame a guy for trying : – ) .

If I need to change the stylesheets how do I do that? I appreciate your help.

Oh, this is probably important for you to know. I was having a great deal of difficulty running the install script. In fact, I never did get it going or receive a password. I was showing my wife a logo I had put on the root dir and was shocked to find the blog showing up there. I was then subsequently given instructions as to how to move it to /blog. That’s where I am now. Hopefully, this will give you a better sense of where I’m at. Thanks again.

I ain’t slept in two days so off to bed now, but to quickly reply at a glance.

The locaiton of your css is here:

https://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog/wp-content/themes/default/style.css

I think you may have made the error when doing your install. Can you actually login in yet> If you can go to options I think, and there should be an option to change both the actual path of the install (in case it’s wrong), and the desired domain. Change one or the other and that should fix at least the problem with the links.

Then go to index.php file and find the part where it refers to link rel blah blah and change that so it removes the period and refers to domain.com/blog/whatever

Sorry if the instructions aren’t concise, and I’m sure there’s a more global way to do it, I’m just totally shattered. Perhaps hold fire someone intelligent to reply before you start playing wit things. As longas you get into your admin panel at the very least, it’s a start.

EDIT: you replied so fast to your own post, well you can bak up your files and posts and then delete everything and reinstall WP – if you had problems and still went through with it, then it may have messed something up, in which case I would consider a fresh install. It would save you trouble in the long run I expect, and perhaps avoid problems with other elements you decide to put in there.

EDIT2: I noticed you don’t have any posts at all so, I think it might be best to install and install properly than to fix an intermittent problem with the paths. Still hold fire for soemone else to reply, alwasy good to have a second opinion (even if my own dr thinks he’s God)

You’ve set the URL wrong. You should change it (Under “Options”) from

https://www.scoremoreclients.com.

to

https://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog

Thanks guys, first answer, no I’ve never been able to login yet. Because of that, would I be able to change the url name in options?

If I can’t, and at this point, perhaps a reinstall makes the most sense. Someone previously mentioned a “uninstall.” Is there such a thing and how do I do it? If not, what should I do to begin anew?

Yoy might be able to send yourself a password to the Email address you entered. It’s a link on the login screen but I can’t rem where, though it doesn’t seem to show anyway.

Without a login you can’t get to your admin panel basically. Best way to “uninstall” would be to drop the tables within mysql, delete your existing files, unless you made changes in which case delete everying, reupload the new files and go through the install again and make sure that it installs correctly. Seeing as you have no content, I see this as the best solution as you will lose nothing. Better now then later 100 posts down the road.

Always remember to back your files locally, I tend to back up my files before I make any changes to the template files and actually ahve several revisions in a folder. The db shuld also be regularly backed up against the typical “shit hit the fan” moments
