• Hi,

A few days ago I set up a blog on my own domain. I wanted to be able to embed youtube video into my posts for which I need an API key (and API url, and I’m not sure what that refers to either). I signed up for a wordpress account but I don’t want an API key for a blog at wordpress.com, I want it for my own hosted blog. I can’t seem to get my wordpress.com account to point to my own hosted blog. I’m really not sure what I am/was supposed to do. Someone please help.

    Thanks.

    Chris

  • The question of why YouTube think an API key is required for posting to self-hosted WordPress sites has been asked before. My suspicion is that they’re confused.

Easy way to get YouTube videos on your site: Viper’s Video Quicktags. Other plugins are available, but I know that one works nicely.

Thanks very much for pointing me to that plugin.

But if I needed an API key for my blog, and I’ve signed up for an account on WP.com, what do I need to do to make that API key point to my hosted blog, rather than my wordpress.com blog?

    this is very confusing..

    1. you dont need an api key to repost you tube files.

    2. even if you did need an api key and you rec’d one from wordpress.com, they wouldnt do the same thing

Moving on .. why did you sign up at wordpress.com, and what did you get an api key for? askimet? thats the only api key that wordpress.com offers, as far as I know.

that api key is used to enable askimet on a self-hosted personal blog, as explained here:

    https://akismet.com/personal/

If youre trying to do something else, im not sure you understand how wordpress.com works.

is whats confusing you, I’m guessing and its crap. You do not need any api key to repost you tube vids to blogs.

if you want to do the ‘send to blog’ thing from within you tube, check this site:

    https://www.robertbuzink.nl/journal/2006/11/23/youtube-brackets-wordpress-plugin/

Mind you i do see that he also points you back to wordpress.com for an api key. At any rate follow his directions, see if it works ??

I have the problem of getting a API key for the plugin askimet. I downloaded wordpress at Ipower where my website is hosted.

Where do I get my API Key?

It is supposed to be in the welcome email or in your profile.

I suspect that I did not get a welcome email because I set up wordpress on my website host and I don’t have it in my profile information.

Can I find it in one of the program folders?

Why don’t you read before posting?
