When entering my api key in the backend of wordpress I am given the error ‘API Key is invalid or without permissions.’

I can enter the API on my local copy of the site fine but not the live site.

I’ve double checked that the permissions are set correctly in the sendgrid backend, tried deleting and reinstalling the plugin, tried disabling all other plugins, checked that the host server has cURL enabled and ensured everything is up to date to no avail. Is there anything else that I could’ve missed?

I’ve seen that there is another user who is facing this error that hasn’t received a reply. If there’s a bug, please let us know.

  • I too have this error on a site hosted on a VSL.

I have generated a number of API keys now but am not sure that they are being entered correctly into the plugin correctly. The key is 69 characters long but when I add it to the API field on the plugin’s SendGrid Credentials page I don’t get any chance to press the ‘Update Settings’ button as the plugin immediately converts the keys to only 12 characters and the checks to see if it is valid, resulting in the the message ‘API Key is invalid or without permissions’.

I can see another user who had this problem found the API Key hard coded into the wp-config.php file and removing the entry allowed him to successfully add the new API key. There is no such entry in my wp-config file so I cannot get the Sendmail plugin to work.
