• I’ve tried installing WordPress Stats, and have inserted my API key – specifically I copied it from my Akismet set up, so I guess it should work.

However, now when I go to my dashboard, I now get a message to say it still needs me to input my API key, even though it’s clearly there. What should I do please?

    Thanks,

    Gavin

  • I’m having a similar problem. It requests my key and after I enter and submit the proper key, I get the following message:

According to the WordPress.com database, this API key is already associated with at least one self-hosted blog. You can add this as a new blog on your WordPress.com account or replace an existing blog and inherit its stats history.

At the bottom there’s a button that says ‘Add to WordPress.com account’ and after clicking it I just get a red box with the error “Missing API key” in it. Also, the message from the last page prompted me to go on my wp.com’s dashboard and see if there was something in there to add the information, but it’s either not there or I’m looking in the wrong places.

    Thanks for any help.

    i have the same problem

And I too have the same problem using version 2.8.1:

I get this on the dashboard of my blog/website located at 10.0.11.9:

“The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account.

Enter your WordPress.com API key to link this blog to your WordPress.com account. Be sure to use your own API key! Using any other key will lock you out of your stats. (Get your key here.) API Key:”

I get my API key from my account at WordPress.com and I put it in. Then I get:

The API key “XXXXXXXX” belongs to the WordPress.com account of “solarboy45”. If this is not your account, please re-enter your API key.

Add new blog to my account

Do this if this blog is new or has never been associated with your API key. This blog will be added to your WordPress.com account.”

I follow the instructions, I put my API key in again but I just go back the original prompt:

“The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because…”

What is the process that requires a key? I sign into my blog at 10.0.11.9 using admin, do I have to use the same accout on my blog as on WordPress.com? What if I can’t? The API key that I’m using works fine with Akismet.

    Thanks.

Hi, any update on this error ? I am having the same issue. Running my own host with WordPress 2.8.2 on Apache

My Askimet is working fine. I use the same key and it replies

The API key “XXXXXXXXXXX” belongs to the WordPress.com account of “toddhampson”. If this is not your account, please re-enter your API key.

then it goes in circles …..

    any help appreciated

    thanks
