• Hi.

I opened up my wordpress blog through my ISP (media temple) and I didn’t get an API Key. Does anyone know how to get one for an existing account?

    Thank you

  • You have to sign up for a wordpress.com account. You don’t have to create a blog on wordpress.com – just the account. Then they will send you the API key.

anyone that can help, another API question:

I have WP 2.6.2, when i go to my user profile my API key is not shown. Someone that previously had my job lost the API code that was used in the askimet plugin. Seeing that they need to be the same API key… Is there anyway to find out what an exisiting API key is? I have checked source codes of pages and plugins but no luck.

    Thanks

Are you sure that it needs to be the same key. The codex doesn’t say anything about that in the Akismet Documentation nor can I find any reference to that on the Akismet site. Have you tried signing up for a new account and entering the new API key? If you still have the wordpress.com that the original key came from the codex (first link) lists how to get the key out of it.

The api key is listed in the askimet settings, where it give a key and says it’s valid, but it doesn’t work for the stats!

Now I’ve opened a second account and have TWO API keys that don’t work.

While the API is displayed on the profile page of a wordpress hosted blog, now that I host on another server at my ISP, the API I tried from the wordpress host does not work.

Has anyone figured this one out?

I don’t even see an API key on my profile page. Where is it located?
