API confusion ?

    Hi there,
    Looking forward to using this plugin, but I am unsure why there are two fields for the API. Browser and Server!!!
    What API Key goes in them ?
    I can find no documentation on this ?

    Hi Dave,

    Thank you for interesting to use this plugin. The reason why it need 2 different API Keys because it will be used in 2 different purpose. The Browser API is used when you setting the Admin Area to get your store location info. And the Server API is used to calculate the distance for customer address and your store location. As Google does not allow you to specify both an HTTP referrer restriction (for the admin map usage) and an IP address restriction (for the server-side distance matrix calculation) so need to split it in 2 different API keys. The version 1.4 and earlier is just using 1 API Key, and which mean that the API Key cannot be restricted at any type. And many users complaining about security as the API Key cannot be restricted.

    Thanks Sofyan, so are you saying the two API keys are just two different ones, being created via the same procedure ?
    If so, perhaps the documentation needs to make this clear ???

    Also I see there is a paid version coming – can you shed some light on what extra features it will have, the cost and how long away it is ?

    I will recommended you to use different API keys for each setting field. And restrict it based on their purpose. If you hover the question mark icon that appear on the left edge input field, you will see a tooltip for the short explanation.

    Yeah I am planning to release the PRO version which has some extra features and priority support. Below is some sneak peak for the features that planned to be add for the start:

    • Meters level distance calculation accuracy.
    • Set rule for each rates rows: Minimum Order Quantity.
    • Set rule for each rates rows: Maximum Order Quantity.
    • Set rule for each rates rows: Minimum Order Amount.
    • Set rule for each rates rows: Maximum Order Amount.
    • Set Advanced Math Formula to calculate total shipping cost for each rates rows.
    • Use map address picker for customer during checkout.
    • Multiple instances within the same shipping zone.
