Apache Mod Rewrite?

  • Hey everyone,

    I was told that you could use an apache mod rewrite to change your catagory links so they end in .html instead of .php (which is much better for search engine optimization). Does anyone know how to do this?

    Links that end in .html are more supposedly more search engine friendly.

    You will have no problems at all with how WP handles the pages / archives etc by default.
    Many WP users here are #1 in Google searches for various things.
    A blog I installed for someone is now #1 in a fiercely competitive market so worry not.
    The SE’s like what WP does.

    Under Options/Permalinks enter e.g. /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%.html

    I’ve enjoyed superb google results/ranking with WP out of the box.

    no need to do anything but write (a lot) and enjoy!

    I’ve changed under Option/Permalink the entry to /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/. When I reload my test site on my Notebook I see that the Permalink is nice and tidy (e.g. https://localhost/<myblogname>/2005/05/01/firstarticle/). But clicking on it brings an Error saying that The requested URL /<myblogname>/2005/05/01/firstarticle/ was not found on this server. Probably I have something missing in my Apache or PHP Installation.

    Can please those cracks on Server Theme give me a help Where I have to look for What?

    Is your htaccess writable? Or did you copy the code that was given to you.
    Do you HAVE mod_rewrite abilities?

    It makes no difference. I get allot of traffic from search engines. especially google. but they are php file not html files so you cannot change them. WP uses CSS and PHP it is not a webpage per say with just html coding.

    Make sure mod_rewrtie is installed and recompiled. make sure you have an .htaccess file in the same directory as your index.php.

    To be honest I have no idea and cn’t answer you. Please could you help me navigate to the right place where I could have a look at to find out mod_rewrtie is installed?

    I forgot, please could you post me the content of an .htaccess file so I could put one in my folder. Thanks – Eddie
