    Hi; thanks for a really useful plug-in.

    My one question which I can’t see has been asked already here (apologies if I missed it) is whether it’s possible to extract a single file (or group of files) from my cloud copy of the backup onto my local had disk?

    Thanks again. Chris

    Hi Chris @salutethepig

    Thanks for reaching out to us.

    It is not possible to directly download or extract a backup from cloud storage to local hard disk unfortunately(mainly because it requires a real-time download function which is not available on a local hard drive).

    But you can always manually download and extract the backup to local drive as needed.

    All the best,

    Thanks for getting back to me. That’s fine, that’s actually what I should have asked. Just that unzipping the files doesn’t seem to produce a file structure that I can work through? What am I missing? I have local copies on the .ZIPs for the backup that I want to look through but that isn’t what I can see?

    Thanks.

    No problem @salutethepig

    The backup zips created with WPvivid is only for restoration purpose and can only be restored by WPvivid, it can not be used for any other cases.

    Let me know if I missed your point.

    Yes, you earlier advised that “But you can always manually download and extract the backup to local drive as needed.”

    But that’s not possible now you say?

    @salutethepig

    To download a backup from cloud to your local drive, go to WPvivid on your site > backup list > click Download button of the backup > Click Retrieve the backup to web server > Click Download to download it to your computer, then move it to your local drive. See this screenshot.

    In my last reply, what I actually meant was it is not possible to restore a WPvivid backup with other plugins or tools.

    Thanks for that; I have already got the sequential .ZIP files that make up one backup manually downloaded from my cloud storage account (OneDrive) to my local hard drive.Sorry if I wasn’t clear where I’d got to.

    What I see though is that unzipping those five files doesn’t seem to produce a file structure that I can work through to retrieve one or more individual files? What am I missing?

    I see.

    Normally after you download the files to your computer or drive, you can right-click and select Extract, once done, you can double click to go into the file and see the files inside. See this example screenshot.

    Is this what you want, or what do your unzipped files look like?

    Thanks; currently the back-ups are erroring when attempting to download so I’m unable to re-check. I’ve sent the debug info via your form.

    Please wait a while then try few more times. If the error persists, can you let us know the exact error message?

    I’m still getting “Item does not exist http code: 404” after clicking on the “Prepare to download”link.

    Good morning; this error seems to have disappeared so I can now extract from local copies after downloading them from the staging web server.

    Just for my convenience and ease of use, under Mac OS, are you aware of any easy way to firstly combine the segmented files — in this instance there are 6 of them — before extracting, so that I get a complete file structure rather than having to run through multiple embedded .ZIPs?

    Hi @salutethepig

    Thank you for your update.

    Sorry I’m not aware of such a way. However, our plugin does offer the option to merge all parts into single file when taking backups.

    Please see this doc for more details.

    Good afternoon.

    Thanks for that; unfortunately the plug-in advised me when earlier backups failed (I’m on shared hosting) to check this option “Enable optimization mode for web hosting/shared hosting” so that’s not available to me I guess?

    @salutethepig

    No problem. You can actually try that. If you get backup issues, you can switch back to the current settings.
