• Hello,

I am currently running WordPress 2.6

Does 2.7 fix any security vulnerabilities?

I am very hesitant to upgrade to 2.7 because of the multitude of “slowness” issues coupled with no apparent fix to this issue.

Is anyone using Godaddy on Linux (shared hosting) and if so, have you upgraded to 2.7 from 2.6 and found that it is running slow?

    Thanks for posting your experiences…

  • Sorry to hear about this. We’d like to take a look. I sent you an email asking for more information in order to help us narrow the issue down.

This is a great thread… b/c it feels like everyone is describing my life lately!

About 3 weeks ago GoDaddy moved me to a “new and improved” server… and now my blog load speed really sucks. I’ve tried everything – and have emailed back and forth with GD support at least 7 times. Each time, I get more and more feedback saying its not GD’s fault – but that wordpress is slow, or any of the otehr excuses.

At this point, my blog is loading anywhere from 8-30 seconds (unnaceptable). This is my business… and I can’t stand to lose people to slow load times.

Like many here, i’ve tried everything… nothing works.

I’m giving up on GD – as I’m assuming its just slow load times – I’m going to look at Mosso – it’s worth paying a bit more to get better speed. I would work with GoDaddy, but they’re latest answer to me was to buy an SSL certificate – of which I currently have no need. I just wish they’d put me back on the old server… clearly the one I’m on stinks.

GDHosting – if you feel like taking a stab at helping me – go for it – https://www.MakingTheMoment.com .

It’s disappointing to hear this. I’d be happy to check it out. Be on the lookout for an email from me.

I am having the exact same problems as above. scothuntsberry.com and oxpatch.net I too am considering a new host.

We’ll certainly take a look, but first we’ll be in touch.

Thanks for posting in this forum, GDHosting! A site of mine (www.writingsalons.com) is terribly slow. Thank you!

Glad to hear I’m not alone with this problem. Having about a dozen web sites on Go Daddy, I know the issue isn’t just “go daddy is slow”. The problem came up just recently after upgrading to 2.7.1 on my blog at https://www.thetruthaboutdiets.com. The funny thing is, another blog at https://www.myfitnessbusiness.com (also on GoDaddy) is running just fine.
So, GDHosting, if there’s any help you can offer, I’m all ears as https://www.thetruthaboutdiets.com is my main blog and the slowdown in speed is killing me. Absent a solution in a day or so, I’ll need to move to a new host.

Update: using the pingdom tools, it appeared that the Facebook Connect plugin was hosing things up, even though I wasn’t using it on my blog (although for some reason I had the plugin active). I deactivated it and deleted it, and my response times improved greatly on both my site and admin panel. Fluke? Coincidence? Maybe. But I don’t really care as long as things are moving faster.

@likoma Just sent you an email to the email address on file.

@souce Let me know if you have anymore issues.

Update 2: Yes, apparently that was a fluke or coincidence because the site (https://www.thetruthaboutdiets.com) is back to crawling along again today.
In fact, tried adding google analytics and Google is unable to verify the site as it times out on them.
Sooo, I guess it’s time to start looking for other hosting options.

GoDaddy is very slow with wordpress, nothing will change tryed all. Solution is change hosting or get virtual or other servers

Oh, great. I just moved some of my sites from a different host to my new GoDaddy account, thinking all was going to be wonderful… I hope I don’t have these problems, too.

I only built one site so far on GoDaddy, using WP, and in all truthfulness it was fine. Perhaps the size of the site had something to do with it. Mine is very basic, only a few pages, nothing big at all.

I do have a question – slightly afraid to ask because it’s probably going to earn a few laughs – but – is version 2.7 the same as 2.7.1?

I think I may have found the culprit at least in my case.

For the site in question (writingsalons.com) I’m using WP 2.7.1 and WP E-Commerce 3.6.10. For WP EC 3.6.10, they changed the directory/folder name and that’s what was causing the trouble. I used Firebug and Y Slow (add-ons for Firefox) and found that WP EC was trying to call some files that were now moved (they were now in /wp-e-commerce/ and no longer in /wp-shopping-cart/). Using Y Slow, I could see that those files were timing out (404) and causing the slowdown. I did a search and replace of the plugin files and voila: speedy again!

So I hope that was the trick. I have to say, I’m very impressed that a GoDaddy staffer is on these forums. Very cool.

Moral of the story? Get more detail on what’s causing the slowdown. Coincidentally, I had another client say her site was slow and it was completely other issues (Google, Feedburner, etc. external calls). Did a little screencast about it here.

    Best,

    Bradley

hey GDHosting, thanks for all the help. Very cool. Since the fixes implemented by your support team, all is well.

    Thanks,
    Dave
